Happiness Q&A with Ragweed: Session 3
August 27, 2009 1 CommentRagweed has answered more questions about the upcoming album, Happiness and All The Other Things.
Jeremy:
Q: This is your 6th album with Mike McClure as a producer. What do you think makes that relationship work so well for you guys?
J: I think it's Mac's willingness to try new things: newer directions, newer methods of creativity to get things going. I think that's how it works really. That, and he really pushes us and rings out of us the sounds he wants to get.
Grady:
Q: How many guitars did you guys bring out to the studio? Do you have a favorite you record with?
G: We probably sent 40 guitars and basses out to CA. We had to have a truckload shipped to us from Texas. We also borrowed some of Brian Setzer’s big body guitars. I mainly played acoustic on the record which was my Laravie. My Mira PRS is my favorite electric to play.
Jeremy:
Q: Who mixed this album?
J: Joe Hardy - he's a long-time producer of ZZ Top. He started working with us on Garage, and he and Mac have continued to work together since on our records and other projects. We've always just let him do his deal...he's done it for so long. It comes down to him and Mac getting the sound they want, with our best interests at heart, while also getting the best-sounding record.
Cody:
Q: Had you written all the songs prior to the studio?
C: We wrote all of them beforehand but just finished them up in the studio. "Overtable" was the only one that wasn’t finished on the way to the studio, and we actually finished it in Vegas a couple nights before we got there.
Q: Cody, what was it like to have your son Dierks come record on "Bluebonnets"?
C: I wasn’t going to record that song, and as I was walking out the door he said, “Daddy are you going to record my song?”. So I knew he had to introduce it on the record.
Stay tuned for more Happiness Q&A with Ragweed. Please remember to check out our Happiness pre-sale currently happening on our website.
